How to book your self-catering holiday cottage accommodation at Barks Holiday Cottage
The Cottage Info page lists the facilities in the holiday cottage, and below there are some extra services that you may wish to take.
1. Check Availability and rates - click holiday cottage availability to visit our up to date availability and rates. You are welcome to then book online or give us a ring on 01538 703436 or drop us an email. We'll get straight back to you and reserve your chosen dates while we complete the booking process.
2. Complete the Booking Form There are three options:
- download the booking form pdf from Googledocs and send it back to us.
- email us and we'll email the pdf booking form straight back to you and hold the dates while you complete it
- complete our online Booking Form When you have completed the online form our system immediately notifies us via email of your booking and we will respond as soon as we receive this. Please expect to hear from us if not immediately, then within a few hours. If we are delayed in responding to your booking please feel free to telephone us.

3. Arrange payment - 50% of the fee is required at the time of booking and the remainder is due 4 weeks prior to your arrival date. We accept cheques, online transfers and PayPal, but regret we do not have credit card facilities. Details of these payment methods are included on the Booking form. When we receive a payment from you we will send you a confirmation. On completion of the booking process we will also send you detailed directions to Barks Cottage.
Optional extras:
'Pack and go' departure cleaning service - it is a requirement that you leave the cottage just the way you found it, including cleaning kitchen & bathroom and vacuuming throughout. The departure clean option at £20 is designed for those who prefer to minimise time spent cleaning and vacuuming.
Midweek Clean - this is a kitchen and bathroom freshen up. In the kitchen the bins and recycling are sorted out, crockery is put away, surfaces are cleaned, and new tea towels supplied. The bathroom is made shiny again. £10 per Midweek Clean
Dogs: one dog is welcome for no additional fee. A second dog is welcome for £10. More than two dogs please call us to discuss.
Unattended pet charges - you may leave your pet unattended in the cottage but only as part of our chargeable service. Most holiday cottage owners do not allow unattended pets at any time, we do but we charge £5 per session. Please check our Pets page for more details of this service.
Heating & Fuel: We make no additional charge for heating but we ask that the gas central heating is turned off during the day. The underfloor heating is pre-set at a comfortable temperature. And we include a large basket of wood and some kindling. Extra charges only become applicable if you require all day central heating or would like to purchase an additional baskets of logs. Simply let us know and we will make what you need available.
Self-catering mini-breaks and last minute self-catering deals
Our preferred minimum booking is 3 nights, but please check in case we have a 2 night gap between bookings - we tend to publicise any two night offers on our Facebook page Barks Holiday Cottage near Alton Towers. If you would like 4 or 5 night self-catering accommodation please add £50 per night to the 3 night rate. You will find details of the rates for 3 nights or a week on our Availability page.
